Whitbread Round the World Race 1989-1990
Sir Peter Blake led his team to victory in all six legs of this event and they won the race. For this around the world race the crew had to raise lots of money to compete, so as well as being a great leader on board he was also a great business man and always had new ideas on how they could fundraise. His crew found him a very strong and stable leader that they could rely on in all aspects of their sailing career.
Americas Cup 1992
Even though Sir Peter Blake was brought into the crew at a very late stage, he still led the New Zealand crew to the finals, this showed he was able to quickly slot into a leadership role and understand what they needed to do and have a plan of how they would do it. His style of leadership was to make every task count, and not just focus on the big things, so everybody in the crew had a job of individual importance.
Americas Cup 2005
The second Americas cup he was a part of was a great success, they came away with a victory. After first not winning Peter went away and worked his team hard, with a determination to win, he didn't give up and it paid off. His quality of determination shows through in his style of leadership which is to keep his team motivated and in a positive mind set, he had faith in the whole crew and was able to combine many individual talents into a high performing team.

I couldn't help but notice that it says that he was in the Americas Cup in 2005 but he died in 2001
