Conclusion
Sir Peter Blake showed many leadership qualities throughout his life, he was a very determined leader who never gave up, no matter what challenge lay ahead of him and his crew. He had a vision of what he wanted to achieve and this helped him get so many victories, he aimed high. there were many key events in his life that showed his style of leadership, his first Americas Cup and then the 2002 Americas Cup and the Whitbread around the world race. Peter's life influenced many other people especially youth, not just sailors but also other sports people. He showed them that by setting goals and working hard it will pay off in the end. People viewed Sir Peter Blake as a very brave leader and a great achiever. He was also a good role model for younger sailors. He died protecting his friends from the pirates that came onto their boat and many admired him for his bravery.

This quote from Helen Clark tells of how many viewed him as an inspiration and he inspired many people to work hard for what they what. They viewed him also as a hard worker and a determined leader
I read a phrase once and it went something like this... Dear God, do not let me drown in the sea of mediocrity. Peter Blake certainly did not drown in the sea of mediocrity. There are some people that live their lives helping others and there are some that are larger than life and can carry a multitude of people along with them, paving the way and enriching their lives. Peter Blake is such a person, an outstanding individual that changed and bettered countless lives.......

How Sir Peter Blake's life influence others ?

He inspired young sailors to train hard and never give up until they had reached their goal. After his second Americas Cup when they won, a significant number of new sailors began to get involved with the sport. Sir Peter Blake also influenced the lives of the crew he was leading, they were inspired by his great leadership that helped them achieve many victories and they also became stronger people individually. Peter Blake also had a care for the environment and sailed around the South American Seas monitoring pollution and this inspired many people to take action and care for the environment because they could make a difference. There is a leadership award named after him now and it gives youth something to strive for in their sport, they look up to him as a role model.
What Key Events showed his leadership style ?
Sir Peter Blake's leadership skills are shown through a number of events where he led his team to victories; such as :
Americas Cup 1992
Whitbread Round the World Race 1989-1990
Sir Peter Blake led his team to victory in all six legs of this event and they won the race. For this around the world race the crew had to raise lots of money to compete, so as well as being a great leader on board he was also a great business man and always had new ideas on how they could fundraise. His crew found him a very strong and stable leader that they could rely on in all aspects of their sailing career.
Americas Cup 1992
Even though Sir Peter Blake was brought into the crew at a very late stage, he still led the New Zealand crew to the finals, this showed he was able to quickly slot into a leadership role and understand what they needed to do and have a plan of how they would do it. His style of leadership was to make every task count, and not just focus on the big things, so everybody in the crew had a job of individual importance.
Americas Cup 2005
The second Americas cup he was a part of was a great success, they came away with a victory. After first not winning Peter went away and worked his team hard, with a determination to win, he didn't give up and it paid off. His quality of determination shows through in his style of leadership which is to keep his team motivated and in a positive mind set, he had faith in the whole crew and was able to combine many individual talents into a high performing team.

What were the attributes of Sir Peter Blake as a leader?
There are many attributes that were persistent throughout the life of Sir Peter Blake, some are:
Determination
He had a strong determination to win and never gave up, this led him to many sailing victories in the Americas Cup and Sir Peter was determined to make a difference in the world. His determination to win and to never give up helped the crews he lead to become better sailors.
Charisma
Sir Peter Blake was able to motivate his sailing crews and to do this he had to have charisma and be able to lead them in the right direction. He was a very confident public speaker could deliver very motivating speeches to his team mates, and even speeches on environmentalism.
Physical Vitality and Stamina
Peter also had physical vitality and stamina which helped him through any difficulties that came his way during his career as a sailor, this attribute gave his sailing team and followers a sense that they had a strong leader guiding them.
Vision
He had a vision of what he wanted to achieve and with his self-confidence he was able to achieve many goals e.g he sailed the seas in South America monitoring global warming and pollution, this showed that he could understand the needs of others and put them above his own.
